Character Details

Dreth
2,900
Male
Neutral Good
"At a glance, his hair is a gleeming steel sliver. Given study, however, it's really just gray from old age."
Shabby Green
5'6"
Scrawny
All that comes with being old. He isn't the spry young man he used to be.
Drethos is very much fond of a red robe he would (not openly) claim he found among debris on Silverpine Forest's shorelines, cleaned up, then took to a tailor. It looks store-bought now, he would be quite confident to say. The robe fits a slight baggily on him, but undoubtedly comfortable for in-town activities.
No proficency in any weapons but the mind. He hasn't picked up a sword in over a thousand years.
First Language: Thalassian
Second Language: Orcish
Other: Common, Amani Troll Dialect

Drethos speaks quickly, clearly, and with amazing upbeatness, all tied together with the elegance and posh expected with one his age.
Perhaps it's mental trauma, or maybe he's just an insensitive fool, but Drethos has an uncanny knack for looking at atrocious situations with a unhealthily dry attitude. Sometimes an inability to take it seriously.
Drethos used to be a very professional writer, having an ethereal mysticism to weaving together a vision on the canvas that was a book's pages. Now, however, he rarely writes out of pleasure.
Alcoholism has been a recent problem. Ever since Arthas' invasion of Quel'thalas, Drethos has been a heavy drinker of wines and the occasional jungle brew.
Pre-Scourge Family:
Airia Demay-
Drethos' wife. He would naturally describe her as, "the woman who kept the family together." Before marriage, she served as a ranger of Quel'thalas, and retired into mentorship for trainee rangers after giving birth to two sons. Died in Arthas' assault of Quel'thalas.

Reven Demay-
First-born son. Reven was first thought mute due to lack of babbling or even crying after birth for the first three months, and in turn never grew up to be a very good conversationalist, unlike his parents. Later aspired to become a ranger under guidance of his mother. Married to a human arcane professor, Elana Summerland, and had a single son with her. Quietly committed suicide two years after his wife's death of old age.

Aris Su'drea-
Second-born son. Unlike his brother, Reven, Aris was very aggressive and often full of piss and vinegar. In adulthood, he became a very enraged activist against magical mutation of the land. He also did not keep his family's surname after marriage to a strongly-connected merchant, Yelisae Su'drea. They raised two sons. Died with his wife during Arthas' assault on Quel'thalas.

Grandchildren:
Reuni Demay-
Half-elf son of Reven and Elana. A very easy-going child, despite being constantly ridiculed and insulted for his half-blood heritage. After his parents both passed on, he cut his ears round and dropped contact with the rest of his family. Drethos heard rumors from an avid reader of his books that Reuni became a mercenary for goblins in Kalimdor frontiers. Years later this was confirmed, and Reuni was reportedly killed in combat.

Elirune Su'drea-
First-born son of Aris and Yelisae. He often thought his father was full of something beginning with 's' (and I don't mean sugar), and rarely hesitated to express it. It led to the many scarring bruises Elirune had, and would have been multitudes more if it weren't for his mother. Elirune was rarely known to be home, though had high aspirations of becoming an entrepreneur under the advisory and connections of his mother. After Arthas' assault on Quel'thalas, Elirune remains unfound.

Haizen Su'drea-
Second-born son of Aris and Yelisae. He was often cleaning up his brother's bruises. For the better part of Haizen's known life, he commonly practiced in mercantile skills and planned to take over his mother's trading house after she retired. Not unlike his brother, he too remains unfound after the Scourge's invasion of Quel'thalas.
-Kaldorei
-Quel'dorei
-Forest trolls
Hawkstrider mount, Reven:
A very quiet beast which coasts along solemnly with the pulls of reins without fuss. Even in the midst of a heated war zone, it acts as if it were in the middle of a sun-bathed meadow.

The docile and uninterested behavior with the world around the hawkstrider has reminded Drethos of his first-born son, and thus was named after him.

Mission

Former Author
"I want either less corruption or more opportunity to participate in it."-Despair Inc.
Drethos is locked in a stalemate in his life. He's too old to do anything he really wants to do. He drinks and practices his shadow art in hopes it will distract him from realizing when his passing will come. He may come across other things that can distract him, on a rare occasion, fickle as they are.
1. Finish and publish abridged version of "Grace of a Power Trip" in handbook form.

A research book originally intended for upcoming human studiers of magic. Drethos Demay is most (in)famous for his book called "Grace of a Power Trip," which vividly described capabilities and history for all known schools of magic -- all with a touch of satire that Demay was known for.

Drethos has, for a ridiculous amount of time, put off the publishing of a handbook version to suit the "fast paced world" he lives in today.

To name the oldest, his profession in wrting, Drethos discovered the career through hardship and lack of any other skills. He was not a fit magister, lacked the athletic flexibility to become a ranger, and simply wasn't adept in.. anything.

Drethos took up the quill and inkwell, and at first wrote a romance novel that took place in the Troll Wars, of which he fought in himself. Two years of revising later, it sold quite well, much to his pleasant surprise. Drethos simply expanded onward in the career of writing, and soon found himself making a modest living from it.

Extra Readin'z:
As told in an interview (over 1k years ago) in regards of how his writing talent began:

Drethos: "I didn't actually start writing until I realized there was nothing else I could do with my life. I'd written poems for past lady friends, but never did I think about making it a career until after I met my wife. When I moved in with her to Silvermoon City, she became rather.. aggravated I may put lightly, at my unemployment.

Interviewer: Do you think your wife was justified?

Drethos: My wife had every right to be so! I left my home before I could learn the arcane properly. I was essentially canon fodder that had been lucky to ungodly measures during the war. I literally had no tradeskill.

Interviewer: How did you find out writing would get you out of that?

Drethos: My first book, 'Paroxysmic', was at first a procrastinated self-fulfillment writing piece. A romance novel. Of course, my wife thought I was the most pathetic man in all of Quel'thalas, and I'm deadly certain a good deal of the editors I contacted thought the same. I was, however determined not to 'kill my darlings,' as the saying goes. It stretched the revising that was supposed to be only three months, into two years. I literally walked out of the agency with a limp from how soundly my writing was thrashed, but it's all part of the process to becoming an author. I assure you, my wife's irritation was well enough motivation to keep pressing onward.

Interviewer: Was the book as successful as you hoped?

Drethos: When I first published the book, after that mythical approval from my editors, I prayed for success. Truly, I thought it would flop rather uneventfully, and give me the solace I tried. However, the book gave its fruits of labor and sold a little over three times of what I anticipated.

Interviewer: What was the best part of the success, aside from the income?

Drethos: I didn't have to sleep on the lounge couch anymore!"
