Character Details

None, as of yet.
Approximately 854 Years of Age
Female
Single
Neutral Good
Deep gray; tied loosely back with a thread.
A luminescent blue.
6' 2"
Slight.
In early adulthood, Aviare's body still exhibits the last wisps of adolescence. Her face retains youth's parting hints, and her hips still have yet to fill entirely.
Aviare's hooves are much chipped and worn by the years, testament to her nomadic tendencies. Additionally, some minor scars populate her face and arms.
At rest, Aviare dons the garb of her people, preferring cloth or leather garments to heavy chain. She finds herself inclined towards darker shades of color, as they allow for subtlety in wake and posture.
Aviare carries herself with poise and courtesy – movements purposeful, and rarely impulsive. Her features curve in modest arcs, neither striking nor awkward, but somehow inviting. Draenic horns wash back in shallow swells, and skin, azure, glows dully. With eyes, bright and asking, fallen in darkening slopes, her face shows a sharp curiosity and equal grimness.
For practical purposes, Aviare uses a mace and shield to defend herself while wandering Azeroth. Both allow for versatality in the wilds, whereas a staff can prove to be cumbersome. Nevertheless, she hopes to train herself in this latter art with time.
Aviare speaks eloquently, though her reclusive nature leaves silence a perfectly viable form of conversation. She questions more often than proclaims, valuing modesty in herself.

In Draenei, Aviare talks with a cultured and precise tone, measured and steady, whereas in Common, she is often prone to stutters, or awkward phraseology. As time progresses, she finds herself improving in this right, but nevertheless has difficulty pronouncing certain words.
Aviare is a Draenei of quietude and contemplation, pondering the universe’s mysteries, and approaching each thing, animate or otherwise, with the utmost respect. Though young, she tries to avoid what she sees as youth’s vices, instead behaving in the ways espoused by her childhood mentors.
Infrequently, sudden bouts of intense inspiration can captivate Aviare, manifesting in a cry of realization and a winning grin. These unexpected sparks occur only on the fewest of occasions, and surprise even her in their extremity. At times, she might take guilt in these unrestrained expressions; her solemnity weaves so deeply into the fabric of her person, that, to her, this sudden change can seem disrespectful, if not a betrayal.
The Broken Ones of Zangarmarsh taught Aviare the craft of herbalism, which she later expanded to alchemy during her stay at Azure Watch. This practice occupies only a small fraction of her time, but she appreciates the meditative precision one must take in its doing.
Alone, sitting amongst the hills or treelife, Aviare might sing to herself - old Draenic songs from days long passed - whispering and humming at once. Some overhearing, have praised her for key, but Aviare oft dismisses these comments, embarrassed rather than flattered.
Aviare's quiet nature often isolates her from most social environments. Though she understands that such habits inhibit her appreciation for this aspect of experience, time has tethered them too strongly to Aviare for any meaningful countermeasures.

Mission

Wanderer
I can only question, never proclaim.
The Legion's horrors sundered any blind faith in the cosmos, and, after the desolation of Shattrath, Aviare began looking beyond her immediate perception; instead, she drew upon the congregate forms, and what reason lay behind the connections between individual facts.
Aviare strives to understand the world in all its myriad forms, from the oldest ancients to the youngest saplings, and what meaning lay behind the Great Dark.
To learn by experience, she wanders, watching the natural world and its sentient counterpart, speaking with the wise present throughout. By these measures, she hopes to find larger truths - fact and meaning that can encompass all the worlds she knows.

History

Shattrath City

Long before Draenor fell into shards and empty weaves, one Evarie birthed a daughter under the eaves of Terokkar Forest. This child would be named Aviare.

Raised among the heights of Shattrath city, Aviare spent her youngest years in constant interaction with the Draenei people, schooled in dialectic by her elders, and exposed to tales of the deep years, those trailing far down into the times of Argus. The Burning Legion and its aim mystified her. How could anything strive to preserve chaos? The elders' dark murmurs haunted her dreams, and she never forgot the stories of Sargeras - driven insane by the great, empty abyss.

When fire came to the fields of Draenor, and the Legion possessed the Orcish race, Aviare's world unraveled, paper in water. The Orcs' mindless rage baffled her. At their hand, Shattrath fell in jagged spires and proud blasts. She remembered that night, when she and her parents fled the city, standing along Terokkar's high grasses, watching the inferno yawn in ancient tongues, deep and bloody with its reaching ashes.

When the fires subsided, and the Horde at last left for another world yet unconquered, Aviare began to roam the hills of Nagrand, and the wandering trails of Zangarmarsh. In these places, she would muse on the nature of life and existence, asking her mind for answers to all impossible questions.

Never satisfied with her own, limited view, she began a long quest for understanding through dialogue, and retook her habit of old: wandering the few Draenei encampments still left, speaking with her fellow people.

The Broken Ones, Draenei further warped than her by the Legion's horrific deeds, brought new light to Aviare. They showed her the universe's tapestry of spirits, and guided her down the deep, ancient right of shamanism.

Aviare, wary of trusting powers somehow elevated above "mortality," at first resisted their efforts. One shaman, however, called before Aviare a sentient elemental, with whom she spoke deep into the night, before its last motes flickered from the physical plane. Moved by this experience, the young Draenei vowed to become a student of shamanism, and dedicated her practical life to commune with the spirits.

She soon developed an affinity with the Broken Ones. As mentors, they would question her every assumption, and teach her the ways of purposeful thought and observation.

The orcs' old traditions would oft arise in her conversations with these warped Draenei. They would express, beyond hatred or any desire for revenge, pity for the orcs, and empathy. Aviare would eventually adopt this opinion, and take keen interest in Thrall's Horde for the same reason.

Beyond anything, the shamans valued experience, without which, nothing could be said of anything. So when Velen and his people at last sought refuge from Outland, Aviare, inspired by her teachers’ words, resolved to join in her race's duty. Thus, after years traveling the Twisting Nether, she came to Azeroth, and continued there her search for truth and wisdom.

For many months, she aided the efforts at Azure and Blood Watch, before coming to Stormwind, wandering the forests, and assisting where she could.

-147,000 (?)
  • Beings called the titans arrived on Azeroth. They created the dwarves (called the “earthen”).
-64,001
  • The titans depart, empowering the dragonflights to care for the world and the Well of Eternity.
-9,999
  • Kaldorei Malfurion Stormrage, Tyrande Whisperwind and Illidan Stormrage; the demigod Cenarius; and the dragonflights defeat the Burning Legion in the War of the Ancients. The war splits the continent in three, forming the Maelstrom that plagues the seas to this day.
-7,300
  • The night elves banish the Highborne from Kalimdor, then close their borders. No one hears from them again for quite some time.
-6,800
  • Highborne settle in Lordaeron, the first elves to visit the continent since the battle with the demons. They settle in the north and call their new country Quel’Thalas; they change their name to high elves.
-2,800
  • The humans build the nation of Arathor to unite against troll attacks. Humans and high elves meet and become allies.
-1,200
  • Arathor gets too populous, and internal strife causes it to break apart into seven independent nations: Lordaeron in the north; Azeroth in the south; Kul Tiras, an island, to the west; Stromgarde, north of Khaz Modan; Alterac, south of Lordaeron; Gilneas on the western peninsula; and Dalaran, the mage city south of Alterac.
-823
Evarie births Aviare in Terokkar Forest.
-230
  • Civil war erupts in Ironforge, with the Bronzebeard clan defeating the Wildhammer and the Dark Iron dwarves. The Wildhammer dwarves settle on the mountain of Grim Batol. Later, the Dark Iron dwarves attack Grim Batol and Ironforge at once, managing to destroy Grim Batol, but losing against the combined forces of Wildhammer and Ironforge dwarves. The Wildhammer dwarves settle on Aerie Peak.
1
  • Eager to conquer a new world and aided by corrupted Alliance magi, the orcs attack. The First War begins.
  • Stormwind proves harder to take than they had thought, however, and the humans slaughter many orcs in the first battle. Orc warlocks hide the orc outpost from prying eyes and the remaining orcs reside there, healing and preparing for more battles.
4
  • The new Warchief of the Horde, Orgrim Doomhammer, lays siege to Stormwind. Under his lead, the Horde takes Stormwind castle in a massive battle. A half-orc assassin kills King Llane.
  • Doomhammer, having just destroyed the human’s pride and joy in the south, seems to retain enough compassion to understand that although sacking a kingdom is accepted, dabbling in dark magic is not. He captures Llane’s assassin, who is loyal to the warlocks, and tortures her into revealing their plans. Lord Anduin Lothar takes control of the Stormwind refugees, leading them north to Lordaeron. Thus the First War ends.
5
  • King Terenas of Lordaeron calls the other human kings together to discuss the Horde and Stormwind. Backed by Daelin Proudmoore of Kul Tiras, he moves that the humans unite to save the Stormwind people and remove the Horde from the land. Kul Tiras, Dalaran and Alterac are agreeable, while Gilneas and Stromgarde are hesitant.
  • The orcs move north into Khaz Modan, and the Ironforge dwarves contact the humans for help. The dwarves of Ironforge and their allies, the gnomes, join the Alliance.
  • The high elves, longtime allies of the human nations, add their bows and magic to the growing arsenal. The Wildhammer dwarves, due to Horde aggression and high elf appeal, also join.
  • The human Archbishop Alonsus Faol forms the holy warriors, the Knights of the Silver Hand. Some Ironforge dwarves join the humans in training as paladins.
6
  • Too soon after the previous war, the Horde advances north. They destroy much of Quel’Thalas.
  • The Alliance manages to force them back to retreat to Stormwind. The Alliance’s push continues and the Horde falls back to the mouth of the Dark Portal. Beloved Lord Anduin Lothar of Azeroth falls in the final battle. The Alliance destroys the orcs’ portal to Azeroth, and imprisons most of the orcs in camps held by Alliance forces.
  • The Second War ends.
7
  • The orcs reconstruct the Dark Portal, and King Terenas fights the Horde on its own soil. He sends his greatest heroes, Khadgar, General Turalyon, high elf ranger Alleria, Wildhammer dwarf Kurdran, and the human veteran Danath, through the portal. The warlock Ner’zhul opens several portals; the magic causes the orcs’ homeworld to rip apart. The heroes sacrifice themselves, closing the portal to Azeroth from Draenor, saving the land. Its unknown if they survived, and if they did, where they are now.
  • Aviare begins wandering Outland, finding refuge in Nagrand and Zangarmarsh.
8
  • The human mage Rhonin leads an attack on the last powerful free orc clan: Dragonmaw. Rhonin and his band break the control the orcs have over the red dragonflight, and the dragons do the rest of the Alliance’s work for them.
  • Aviare begins her training in Shamanism with the Broken Ones.
10
  • The orc shaman Ner’zhul, now imprisoned in ice as the Lich King, corrupts archmage Kel’Thuzad of Dalaran. Kel’Thuzad forms the Cult of the Damned, maddened mortals who are obsessed with the undead, to aid him in creating a plague of undeath.
25
  • The Third War begins
  • Paladins are unable to cure the plague that sweeps through Lordaeron. Prince Arthas loses his soul and mind during a quest to find a cure, and is the dominating force behind the fall of Lordaeron and the slaying of his father, King Terenas, and the beloved paladin (and his mentor), Uther Lightbringer.
  • Alliance forces flee west, their hopes dashed with the fall of Lordaeron, Quel’Thalas and Dalaran, and the coming of the Burning Legion.
  • The presence of the Alliance and Horde alerts the night elves to strange movements. When Tyrande Whisperwind discovers the Burning Legion has returned, she awakens the sleeping druids.
  • In an unprecedented measure, the night elves, Alliance and Horde unite to battle the demons. Atop Mount Hyjal, the night elves imbue the World Tree with their magic, giving back the immortality and power the Well of Eternity had gifted them. The magic destroys the demon forces.
  • The Third War, the shortest but the most damaging of them all, comes to an end.
  • The night elves, mortal, vulnerable and no longer secret, join the Alliance.
  • Jaina Proudmoore leads the Alliance far south where they settle on a rocky island called Theramore.
26
  • The diminished Alliance loses more numbers as most surviving high elves on Lordaeron secede and join the exile Illidan. They call themselves the blood elves to remember their fallen kin, and become Illidan’s army.
29
  • Daelin Proudmoore leads an assault on Durotar, failing miserably and leading the orcs back to Theramore. The Horde destroys Admiral Proudmoore and his troops, and damages much of Theramore, but leaves it standing.
30
  • The truce between the Alliance and Horde is still intact, although some say it is in their leaders’ eyes only.
  • Lordaeron is mostly an undead wasteland, with the Scourge and the Forsaken battling for control. Demons are still a very real threat in many places.
  • Although many people are just trying to get along with their normal lives, they live with the shadow of death still on the doorstep, whether their doorstep lies in Theramore, Durotar, Stormwind, or a tiny pocket of resistance in Lordaeron. Although not in open war, this is certainly not a time of peace.
31
  • The Burning Crusade begins.
  • The Exodar crashes in Azeroth.
  • Aviare begins assisting the Draenei at Azure Watch and Blood Watch.
In Zangarmarsh, assisting her Broken mentors of old.

Throughout Aviare's life, her mother would sing old rhymes long into the night. These songs left a deep impression upon Aviare's sense of emotion and spirituality, and translated the Draenic yearning into universal terms. As she left for the larger world, Aviare carried on this tradition in her own way, humming when alone, or whispering the verses.

On Meaninglessness

The sadness of this place, Desolace. It reaches to my innermost places, and questions all assumption, any dependency.

It asks: why are you here?

This I cannot answer, as much as I try. Great political beings work as they do, granting powers there more, here less. But even as my race praises the work of the Naaru, far from this dread place, I cannot help but look through the old, warped eyes of Sargeras, and fall apart at the utter depth of this abyss.

Such sadness on the brink of these empty sands, and empty skies.

Knowing so little as we do, when once, far greater beings than us could barely stand before the dark, how can these people of Azeroth so remain united, and this assured of meaning? Even I, living far longer than those around me, feel impossibly small in the context of time – lost of worth. How can this Alliance hold so bravely to the hollow reins?

For me, all is lost in this reality. Watching the struggled weeds sway limp in the wind, and the endless plains of dirt before me, I can do so little but sleep.
