Recruiting crew for the Stormrider
History
Menethil Harbor
Gil “Cannon” Fleetwood was a master storyteller and accomplished arcane wizard, with just one tiny flaw – he was a pirate. He’d taken to piracy as a young man, disenchanted with humanity and lured by the promise of salty air and freedom, not to mention dreams of riches. Gil joined forces with his best mate, Roland Darkson, who captained the Maiden’s Prize. Together they established a successful smuggling enterprise for the Bloodsail Buccaneers and became quite wealthy. Despite his wealth, Gil refused to pay for his women and generally kept his socializing to his mates, with whom he loved to spin tales of great sea adventures. One day in Menethil Harbor, he made use of the services of a kindly seamstress named Erika. While she sewed a new mage robe for him, he spun his tales of the sea, and they fell in love in short order. Though Gil spent much of his time at sea, he left his heart with Betsy each time he boarded the Maiden’s Prize. In time, Betsy gave birth to a daughter with fiery red hair, much like Gil’s. Her father named the baby girl Angellika after the two most important women in his life: his mother Angela and his sweetheart Erika.
Angellika’s early childhood was spent in the loving arms of her mother. Her father, an honorable man at heart, sent gold home so that Erika and Angellika could live comfortably. Angellika’s mother tried to educate her so she’d have a better life, teaching her sewing and other womanly arts, but Angellika was more of a tomboy than anything else and preferred climbing trees and fighting with boys to pretty gowns and tea parties. Her father spent his time with them while in port, which sadly was not often, and Angellika grew to idolize her father. He mesmerized her with his great tales of the sea in front of the hearth fire, and she could vividly picture the roll and creak of the decks, the fierce power of the sea, and the salty taste of the air.
When Angellika was nine, she snuck out of her home one night when her father was due to return to the Maiden’s Prize. Following him to the ship, she hid herself out of sight while she watched the crew preparing to sail the next day. Then she dressed herself in the rough trousers and overshirt she’d swiped from her mother’s bending basket and presented herself to the crew as a boy in search of a job. The crew’s spoils had been good that season and she was brought on as a cabin boy, unbeknownst to her father or anyone else. She gave her name as “Angelo” and was accepted when she proved herself a hard worker. She was put under the charge of an older youth on the ship she remembered only as the captain’s son, and they developed a tenuous if fleeting friendship as the only two underage “pirates” onboard. He taught her the ways of ship life, and she told him stories she’d heard at her father’s knee. Angellika watched her beloved father from a distance, who never suspected the eager young boy could be his darling daughter.
Angellika had only been onboard only a few months when the Alliance navy ambushed the ship and killed Captain Darkson. She witnessed her father get stabbed and then captured by a naval officer. He was dragged off, still alive. She could not follow him because that would have given her away, and she was forced to stay with the crew until the next port, when she escaped. She tried to find out what happened to her father, but learned next to nothing other than that both her father and the Captain had been set up and she had to keep her mouth shut if she wanted to live. The only information she had was the drunken account of an Alliance naval bo’swain she overheard one night in port while she was hiding outside the window of a tavern. He said her father put up a fight and gave him the black eye he was sporting. Angellika felt sure that meant her father survived … and was somewhere out there.
In order to better search for her father, Angellika got herself back on another ship as a cabin boy again, during which time she learned a great deal about ships, piracy, and even battle. She found it easy to disguise herself as a boy, being a late bloomer and having her father’s stories of life onboard to back her up. During one battle, a boarder from an enemy pirate faction captured Angellika and, as she struggled, his hand slipped between her legs and her secret was discovered. She cursed him savagely, and, to her surprise, a huge bolt of fire burst from her and the man was struck down immediately.
The mage onboard on her ship observed the boarder’s death and recognized an innate magical ability in Angellika, which she took to be a gift from her long lost father. The mage taught Angellika what he knew and she learned eagerly. Inevitably, Angellika began to blossom into a woman, and as her body developed, so did her talents. It grew harder and harder to disguise herself. Soon enough, the mage who mentored her began to suspect her secret. One night, her mentor tried to force himself onto’ Angellika, but her power exceeded his and she escaped both he and the ship.
Over the next several years, she learned to channel her rage at cruel men – the ones who captured her father, the mage who tried to rape her – into her magical abilities. She used her sweet face and winsome smile to charm mages and warlocks and learn their secrets, even stealing them when need be; yet she let no man touch her. She began to experiment with darker forms of magic, including the summoning of demons. When finally she was able to summon, capture, and enslave a demon for her own use, Angellika felt real power for the first time … and triumph over the captors of her past. Swearing revenge on her enemies, she set out to find and slaughter them … and, she hoped, to learn more about the whereabouts of her father.
Went to an island off the southwestern coast of Westfall where a new crew member had been press-ganged. There she found Azrielis, who had been captured by Captain Darkson and told she'd been covered with murloc bait. She discussed the benefits of becoming a loyal and trusted member of the crew with her. Azrielis agreed and Angellika made her sign the Articles. She then placed a surveillance collar on her until we were sure she could be trusted. (8/28)
Met with crew member Azrielis in Captain Darkson's quarters on the Stormrider. Azrielis had brought along a dwarf hunter by the name of Glodd whom she thought would be a good candidate for the crew. Angellika interviewed him, then tested his ability to follow orders by commanding him to kill the deckhand out in the corridor. Glood complied handily, putting a shot in the deckhand's head. Angellika revealed that the deckhand had been a spy, sent to murder the captain and quartermaster. Angellika rewarded Azrielis by removing the recruit's collar, then placed a new one on Glodd's neck, thus initiating him into the Stormrider Corsair's as a Swabby. Angellika sent the two off on a task to find a new recruit who needed assistance. (9/28)
Went to a tavern in Old Town with Azrielis and Glodd, where they ran across Annamarie who expressed an interest in joining the crew. After drinks, they flew back to the ship where Angellika took on Annamarie as a new crew member. Angellika retired while Glodd and Azrielis showed Annamarie her bunk and gave her a tour of the ship. (10/2)
Gathered with the crew onboard the Stormrider and made introductions among Captain Darkson, Glodd, Annamarie, Lrr, and Deficon. Shkinwe was unable to make it at the last minute. Glodd and Deficon had a drinking contest (Deficon won). Lrr got drunk and had to clean up the mess she made on the deck, as well as Deficon's. Captain Darkson showed Glodd and Annamarie how to operate the guns on deck. Then the Captain had a stern talking to everyone about their behavior, afterward giving them each assignments and promoting them to Deckhand. At this point, a dwarf named Axneth appeared on the dock below asking to board. He wanted to join the crew, which he did, but not after Darkson took away his weapons and commanded him to stay aboard the ship until he was satisfied he posed no threat. Then the Captain paid out winnings of 60 gold to Glodd for winning the crew lottery (120g total, the other half will go toward the next lottery). Then the Captain retired and the crew went on its way. (10/5)

The Captain called the crew to the Stormrider last night. You'd have a hard time tellin' it though -- the deck sparkles clean as a whistle and there's nary an empty rum bottle to be seen. We can thank crewmate Lrr for that, no doubt -- she's impressing me already. Captain promoted her to Watch for all that scurryin' she does up the ropes, and several other crew members were assigned duties and promoted as well. Crew members Annamarie and Glodd are both gunners now after the Captain saw how they were able to fire the big gun on deck. Annamarie had a dead shot, while Glodd was a bit slow on the uptake but decent otherwise. The other, Deficon, has a chip on his shoulder that I'm not taking a liking to. The Captain assigned him to be his "long arm of the law," as it were. And it turned out we needed Deficon to start immediately as a newcomer showed up -- a dwarf by the name of Axneth. Claimed he was an experienced sailor and wanted a position on the crew. I could tell the Captain didn't take a shining to him right away, and locked down his weapons. Deficon was assigned to keep an eye on the dwarf, which I hope he can manage what with all the drinkin' and explodin' he seems to enjoy doing. As for me, well, I hung back to get a better feel for the new crew, but have no doubt I'll start workin' them to death soon.
Brewin' and Crewin'

Stopped off at the Pig & Whistle tonight with Azrielis for a little shop talk. Ran into ol' Glodd standin' about at the flightmaster and brought him along. I figure since I don't drink that it's good to have a dwarf along to lap up the extra, right? Well, at the tavern, we ran across a friend of Glodd's -- a human mage by the name of Annamarie. Turned out she's a fellow sailor, having lost her ship and crew recently to a maelstrom. She was looking for work, and I figured we could use us a seasoned sailor, so I hired her on. Not sure what Darkson will think of a human mage -- not sure he's so enamored with Lady Emeralde -- but whatever. He's been off chasin' skirts or something, so his loss. Anyway, back to the tavern ... after I had me a nice ham steak (mmmmm), I took the crew on over to the Stormrider in the cove. Introduced Annamarie to our beauty of a ship, then left it to the others to show her a bunk.
Spies

Last night I found out that one of our deckhands was actually a Blackwater spy. I caught the little wench sneaking into Captain's quarters and poisoning a large bottle of rum. I had one of our new recruits, an eager little dwarf by the name of Glodd, dispose of her. He questioned me, which I hated, but he did the job. No one ever questions the Captain, so why me? I need a bigger staff, I think.
Note to self: Throw that poisoned rum over the side of the ship before Darkson returns.
I hate Brewfest

All these drunk dwarves, drunk gnomes, drunk jerks on Mammoths ... I can't wait for Brewfest to end.
Angellika's journal is nothing more than old Grimoire she no longer uses or needs. It's pretty beaten up and grimy, and she just writes in the margins when she feels like it.

Description: Angellika surveyed the crew members carefully. Glodd was paying too much attention to the ladies. Azrielis was eyeing the big guns on the deck. And the newcomer -- Annamarie -- just seemed awestruck.
Description: Quartermaster Angellika looked the dwarf up and down, deciding what to make of him. Would he fit in? Would he obey orders? She decided to test Glodd. \"Dwarf, kill that deckhand in the corridor.\"
