Victorie's Compendium of Dragon Slaying delves into the mysterious world of Azeroth's most infamous creature: the Dragon. From whelps to wyrms, from the lowly to the legendary, this compilation explores all dragonkin. Find the dragons' lairs, explore their lore, and learn how to slay them!

Fey Dragon

The Fey Dragon

This "dragon" is actually more like flying lizard. The fey may be better known to adventurers by more common names, such as faerie dragon, blink dragon, and sprite darter. These little creatures are classified as dragonkin, but as they are not related to true dragons, there is some disagreement as to whether this is an appropriate category. I include them here for the sake of comprehensiveness.

Lair: The little Fey Dragon, and it's cousin, the Wily Fey Dragon, can be found in Azeroth at Stonetalon Peak in the Stonetalon Mountains. Older fey dragons live in Feralas and Ashenvale. The vast majority of fey dragons are in the Emerald Dream, however, which is inaccessible to most.

Level: 24-27 (Stonetalon Mountains)

Looks: Fey are bright, turquoise lizard-like creatures with colorful, butterfly-like wings. Pink and purple feathery antennae sprout from above their beady, purple eyes. Their bodies are quite small, and they are about the same size as dragon whelps. It's easy to become mesmerized by their shimmering wings and sparkling scales, and perhaps they use this to confuse their enemies.

Lore: Fey dragons live in the Emerald Dream, protecting it from hostile magic. As allies with the night elves, they occasionally accompany them into battle. I imagine the fey in Talon Den at Stonetalon Peak came back from the Emerald Dream with the druids there. They can be summoned from the Emerald Dream, as they were by Malfurion Stormrage who brought them to Feralas and Ashenvale to rid the forests of demonic magic after the second invasion of the Burning Legion.

Lessons from the Longsword: The Fey Dragons can siphon magic from their enemies, so they can be challenging foes for magic users. The Fey Dragon's Nullify Mana ability drains 5 mana from casters and transfers it to themselves, while the Wiley Fey Dragon's Mana Burn ability shoots out an anti-mana bolt that siphons mana and causes 0.5 damage for every point of mana drained. Adventurers using magic should consider employing whatever means they have to protect their mana or stop the fey dragons from using their own. Non-magic users, however, have little to worry about here. They only have 582-724 health and do not hit very hard.

How I Did It: As a rogue, it was very easy to slay the fey dragon. I ambushed them and sliced and diced. I believe I could have killed them without any special abilities, in fact.

Fey Dragon Fight

Loot: Fey dragons drop the Fey Dragon Scale (a Horde quest item for Jin'Zil's Forest Magic). They also drop items like Ruined Dragonhide, Small Claw, Sharp Claw, Small Flame Sac, green gems, green gear, and -- very rarely -- some world drop blue items like the Blackfang dagger.

Learnings: Here are some tidbits I picked up while slaying the fey dragons:

- There are only 3, maybe 4, fey dragons in Stonetalon Peak -- and all are spread out around the perimeter close to the mountains, interspersed with Sap Beasts (oozes).

- Fey dragons do NOT drop the Sprite Darter Hatchling pet. That pet is obtained from doing a Feralas-based quest chain (Alliance) or by killing Sprite Darters in Feralas (Horde).

- Nal'taszar is a rare, non-elite level 30 dragon who may appear in the innermost room of the Talon Den at Stonetalon Peak in the Stonetalon Mountains. Nal'taszar can only be attacked by Horde adventurers, and he can be challenging as he is accompanied by two level 26-27 friends who like to fight melee. Casters should be extra careful as he has a Chain Burn ability which siphons mana and does damage.

VictorieVictorie's Compendium of Dragon Slaying is a regular column detailing dragons of all shapes and sizes. The compendium is written from the perspective of Victorie, a human rogue who slays dragons -- and only dragons -- across the face of Azeroth!
