 Emeralde sighed. "Look at me!" she said to no one in particular, exasperation clear in her voice. "All I did was stop by to welcome the newcomer," she mumbled, motioning to the tall, dark-haired woman in the center of the throng. "And she turned me into a badly-dressed pirate!" Victorie squinted into the fading sun, searching for the elusive red whelp. Suddenly she spotted it as it flitted just up ahead, the rays bouncing off its shimmering scales.  "Hope is a DISEASE of the soul! This land shall wither and die!" rang the words through the grove. The rotted and diseased dragon charged toward the band of intrepid adventurers, who held their ground. Emeralde felt their solidarity even through her trepidation. Something near her foot caught her attention, and she looked down to see a small mushroom growing rapidly where none had been before.
